Today is the beginning of a new chapter for me. Although I have been researching, planning, and contemplating a subject, structure, and content for a couple of years now, today is the day I begin writing my first book on the subject of change.
To be successful I'll need to devote more than time to this endeavor. I will also need to commit physical, mental, and spiritual focus to accomplish my goal. I'll have to forego other things that I value and enjoy. Change involves choices.
New beginnings require letting go of old habits, comfortable routines, and often, even treasured items. Every new beginning begins with an ending. To take hold of the new, we must be willing to let go of the old.
Today as you consider new beginnings to which God is calling you, be sure to consider what God also is calling you to leave behind.
"Transition starts with an ending. That is paradoxical, but true."
William Bridges, Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change, 2nd ed. (De Capo Press, 2003)
We do ourselves and others disservice if we disregard this wisdom.
