What would Jesus say to the 21st Century Church?
Today, Jesus' message to his church might differ in some regions. Yet, wherever there is wealth, emerging wealth, or even perceived wealth; wherever people are self-confident instead of Christ-dependent; wherever people's hearts hearken to voices other than His voice, I can imagine Jesus delivering words of rebuke, correction, encouragement, and hope to those who love Him and seek to serve Him. I seek change in and through you so you and the work of your hands will display my glory, not yours. I want change to proclaim my Truth, light the Way, and season Life.
While you work with limited palettes, I work in unlimited spectra – kaleidoscopes of infinite variation. My changes astound you – even taking your breath away.
You require breath to live. My Spirit is breath.
You have known these things, yet you prefer to tame me – to try to confine me to your song sets, liturgies, sermons, and ceremonies. I will not be confined. I am the LORD your God.
Have you considered me when you speak of change? I dwell in the heavens. Consider where your help comes from.
